Canadian Critical Incident Inc. is pleased to announce that registration is now available for a 5-day CRISIS NEGOTIATOR COURSE hosted by the Brantford Police Service from 31 May – 04 June 2021!

The Crisis Negotiator Course is offered to police officers and mental health professionals that deploy with police service members for police organizations in Canada. This training is available to members of your Crisis Negotiator Unit, Tactical Team, Mobile Mental Health / Crisis Units, Communication Operations members and to those who could benefit from the skills negotiators use in crisis intervention, de-escalation and critical communication.  The course will focus on response to incidents involving a barricade or hostage, individuals suffering from a mental illness, in crisis or who may be suicidal.

This training will also allow Crisis Negotiators to gain an understanding of the requirements and responsibilities of the Command Triangle in order to understand their own critical roles and responsibilities and become part of the communal team effort to effectively resolve critical incidents. Attendees will be trained in the concepts and philosophy of crisis negotiations, subject/suspect assessment, mental illness and how to manage people in crisis through de-escalation, crisis negotiation strategies and techniques.  The training will develop the members’ ability to recognize high risk situations, use defusing techniques, enhance active listening, call on effective communication skills and apply crisis negotiation methods. 

This course is accredited by the Ministry of the Solicitor General, on behalf of the application by the Brantford Police Service. This course will take place at the Brantford Police Service HQ, 344 Elgin Street, Brantford, Ontario.   REGISTRATION IS LIMITED.  There are a limited number of seats available for attendees from outside agencies.
