The M’Chigeeng First Nation Peer Support & Outreach Program will be hosting the Canadian Critical Incident Inc. (CCII) three-day Crisis Negotiation and De-Escalation Techniques for First Responders. This three-day course will provide a solid understanding of the role, responsibilities and skills of a Crisis Negotiator for the First Responders which includes Mobile Crisis Response Team members, support staff and Supervisors.
Attendees will be trained in the concepts and philosophy of crisis negotiations, subject/suspect assessment, mental illnesses and how to manage people in crisis through de-escalation strategies. The training will develop the attendee’s ability to recognize high risk situations, use defusing techniques, enhance active listening, call on effective communication skills and apply crisis negotiation techniques and strategies. The course will focus on instruction for attendees who will respond to incidents involving individuals experiencing mental illness in a state of crisis or suicidal. This three-day course will also include First Responders Personal Safety tips, Personal Resilience training, with a personal case study. And a scenario based training exercise.
