Crisis Negotiations and Major Incident Command Review Workshop for Frontline Officers and Supervisors

This workshop will review common mental health illnesses and disorders influencing a person in crisis and applying effective negotiation strategies and techniques. This workshop will also provide the Frontline Officer and Supervisor the basic knowledge and skills needed to assume initial command and control of the scene during a high-risk incident. Effective response, planning and supervision are vital to meet the overall mission of resolving a high-risk and critical incident peacefully, using the least amount of force possible. This workshop will assist in providing the frontline officers and supervisors the knowledge and skill needed in the event of transitioning the command and control over to a neighboring police service. The training material for this workshop is part of the course training materials used to instruct and qualify police officers as crisis negotiators and major incident commanders.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will review the common mental health illnesses and disorders influencing a person in crisis and applying effective negotiation strategies and techniques. Attendees will learn the concepts, roles and responsibilities of the Command Triangle, Critical Incident Commander, Crisis Negotiating Team, Tactical Team and Command Post. Attendees will review S.M.E.A.C and I.C.L.E.A.R and the need for establishing effective containment, perimeters, staging areas and communications.
